VDE Insulated Torque Screwdriver Set — safe live working and accurate torque for EV components

As electrified vehicles become routine in every automotive workshop, two things matter more than ever

As electrified vehicles become routine in every automotive workshop, two things matter more than ever: safe live working on high-voltage systems, and applying the correct torque to low-torque electrical fastenings. The new Laser Tools VDE Insulated Torque Screwdriver Set (part number 9167), has been built around those exact priorities — offering VDE-rated insulation for live work and a fine, repeatable torque range suitable for delicate EV/hybrid connectors.

This slipper-style torque screwdriver avoids over-tightening by releasing (slipping) at the set torque, protecting fragile terminals, conductor crimps and plastic housings. It’s fully insulated to IEC 60900 and certified VDE for safe use on live circuits up to 1000V AC / 1500V DC, making it ideal for on-vehicle electrical work where safety and precision are non-negotiable. Eight fully-insulated fast-change interchangeable adaptors are included in the set: 4x slotted (3.0, 4.0, 5.5 and 6.5mm), 1x Ph1, 1x Ph2, 1x Pz1 and 1x Pz2.

Why this matters:

  • Safety first: many EV/hybrid systems operate at voltages far above the 60 V “high-risk” threshold. Fully insulated hand tools are essential to reduce the risk of shock when working near live components.

  • Correct torque prevents failures: electrical connectors rely on the right clamping force for consistent contact resistance. Over-torque can crack insulation, strip threads or damage terminals; under-torque can cause poor contact, heating and eventual failure. The 9167 prevents both outcomes.

  • Traceable accuracy: workshop owners and fleet operators increasingly expect tools that are certified and calibrated. Laser supplies the 9167 with factory calibration and a certificate of conformance to ISO 6789-1:2017 — a reassurance for audit and quality systems.

  • Torque range: 1.0–6.0 Nm, settable in 0.1 Nm increments via a pull-down collar, with an accuracy / tolerance: ±6% as per standards — reliable for torque-sensitive electrical fixings.

  • Slipper action: positive release at set torque avoids over-tightening and damage to connectors.

Typical applications:

  • EV/Hybrid low-torque electrical connections (battery pack service covers, control module connectors, sensor & signal plugs).

  • Interior and bodywork electrical connectors where plastic housings and small threads are at risk.

  • Any live or potentially live electrical work requiring both insulation protection and torque control (follow OEM procedures).

Safety and usage notes:

  • Always follow vehicle manufacturer instructions and safety procedures when working on high-voltage systems. Use full PPE and isolate circuits where required.

  • The 9167 is VDE/IEC insulated for live work — but live working should only be carried out by trained personnel and only when necessary.

  • Keep the tool calibrated per your workshop schedule to maintain accuracy and traceability.
