Going to one Event could transform your business

Don’t worry if you haven't been to an event before, you'll be welcomed by a room and industry that is supportive

The upcoming UK Garage & Bodyshop Event 2026 is just around the corner and I’m excited, are you? Hear me out and give me a few minutes to explain why you should go to events, no sales pitch from event organisers, just a garage owners view of what it can do for YOU. And why I believe you should drop down your tools for a day on the 3rd and 4th June in Birmingham.

Don't worry if you have thought about it before and not been; do it. Don’t worry if you haven't been to an event before, you'll be welcomed by a room and industry that is supportive. It isn't simply about selling to garage owners, it's about connecting and learning.

That matters more than ever for independent garages.

When the workshop is busy and the phone does not stop, it is easy to see an event as time away from the business. In reality, it can be one of the best investments you make in it. A good event gives you space to step back, look up and remind yourself that your garage is part of a wider trade that is moving forward all the time. That is exciting.

There is real value in getting out of your own four walls for a day or two. You see what is coming, what is changing and what is likely to affect your garage in the near future. Whether that is new technology, new training opportunities, better tools, fresh ideas around processes or shifts in customer expectations, events give you a chance to get ahead rather than simply react later. That alone makes them worthwhile.

But the biggest benefit is often the people.

One conversation really can change everything. Speak to another garage owner and you might find a practical answer to a problem that has been frustrating you for months. Talk to someone on the technical side and you may discover a smarter way of approaching training or diagnostics. Catch up with a supplier or manufacturer and you never know what opportunities may come from it. It could be a new partnership, a new product, better support or simply a better understanding of what is around the corner.

That is one of the strengths of this industry. People are usually more willing to share than many expect.

For owners, events are also a reminder that you do not have to figure everything out on your own. The challenges you face are rarely unique. Most have been encountered before, and often solved before, by someone who is only too happy to talk honestly about what worked for them. That makes events a brilliant place to learn, but also a great place to feel re energised about where your business is heading.

There is another side to this too, and it is just as important. Take your team with you where you can.

Encouraging your staff to be involved in the industry helps build long term commitment and engagement. It shows them there is a bigger future in this trade. It helps them see the opportunities ahead, not just the jobs booked in this week. It can spark fresh interest, build confidence and remind good people why they chose this career in the first place.

That kind of energy comes back into the workshop with them.

A team member who has seen new ideas, met new people and felt part of something bigger often returns more motivated and more engaged. That benefits the whole business. It lifts standards. It creates conversations. It helps build a workplace where people feel they are developing, not just clocking in.

So if you have been thinking about going to an event, take this as your sign. Go with an open mind. Talk to people. Ask questions. Listen well. Bring your team if you can. You may come back with technical knowledge, business ideas, new contacts and a clearer view of the future.

More than that, you will come back reminded that this industry is full of opportunity, support and people who want to keep moving forward together.
