Automotive lighting specialist provides training to Swindon students
OSRAM recently provided training on automotive lighting to more than 90 students at Swindon College.
With students being a significant part of the future of the automotive aftermarket, OSRAM is dedicated to assisting in their education, which is why representatives from the business, in conjunction with Mike Smallbone from Aftermarket Business Solutions, recently conducted two training sessions for students at the North Star Campus at New College Swindon. This follows on from the training OSRAM conducted at Warrington College earlier in the year.
Throughout the day, students learned about the aftermarket in general from Mike, as well as bulb technologies, business opportunities when it comes to upselling and fitting bulbs and the importance of fitting premium quality products.
Marketing Manager, Terri Clark, who delivered the lectures on the day, said: “We were pleased to see so many students actively engaging with our material. We saw a lot of passion and desire to learn at Swindon College and that’s encouraging, as we see a lot of conversation around the skills shortage in our industry and we wanted to assist in any way possible to keep these young people engaged.
“There is lots of complexity when it comes to automotive lighting including the different technologies and the future developments of it too. There are also profit opportunities to be made in bulbs, but we don’t see many workshops taking this opportunity, which is why we want to teach the younger people in the industry why they should be charging for bulb check services and how it benefits them, as well as their customers.
“We also wanted to stress the importance of fitting premium quality and reputable components, as fitting a poor quality bulb may dazzle other drivers, fail prematurely and in some cases, be hazardous in the engine bay and cause damage to the headlight unit, so want them to learn this information at the start of their career, and hopefully carry it through.”
