ATS Euromaster to Wind Down UK Operations as 700+ Jobs Placed at Risk

Significant financial losses have led ATS Euromaster to begin winding down its UK operations, placing more than 700 jobs at risk.

The car and van fast-fit specialist has proposed the sale of 35 of its 152 sites to Formula One Autocentres, alongside a further 14 sites to S&M Tyres, which operates under the name Elite Garages.

If the sales are completed, 216 employees across the 49 locations are expected to transfer to the new owners under TUPE regulations.

However, ATS Euromaster has confirmed that a further 703 roles could be made redundant across its Aston-based head office, call centre and the remaining 103 sites should the proposals move forward.

The company said that following these disposals, it would no longer be viable to continue trading in the UK, as the significantly reduced network would not provide the nationwide coverage required to compete effectively.

The proposed closures relate solely to ATS Euromaster’s UK business and do not impact any other part of the wider Euromaster Group.

Nick Harley, group managing director of Euromaster UK, said: “Today’s announcement marks an extremely sad and difficult moment for everyone in the company.

“We recognise the impact this will have on our colleagues, their families, and the communities ATS Euromaster serves, and it is not a decision we have taken lightly.”

Elite Garages, a family-run business with more than 65 years of history, began as a single garage in the 1960s. With the addition of the 14 ATS Euromaster branches, its network will expand to 38 vehicle repair centres.

Both companies are aiming for a TUPE transfer date of April 18, when ownership of the sites is expected to formally change hands.

Richard Whitemore, managing director at Elite Garages, said: “The acquisition of these 14 ATS Euromaster locations marks a significant milestone for our family business.

“We will work closely with ATS Euromaster to ensure a smooth and supportive transition for all employees, and we look forward to welcoming these new colleagues into the team.

“Together, we will ensure ongoing service for existing customers while continuing to grow each location through investment in recruitment, equipment and training.”
