Auto Windscreens welcomes European SERMI scheme approval in the UK

SERMI allows independent garages and technicians to safely gain access to vehicle manufacturer’s security-related repair and maintenance information

Auto Windscreens has welcomed the announcement by the Independent Garage Association that the European Security-related Vehicle Repair and Maintenance Information (SERMI) scheme will be officially launched in the UK on 1 April 2026.

SERMI allows independent garages and technicians to safely gain access to vehicle manufacturer’s security-related repair and maintenance information through a trusted framework without needing to go through multiple OEM approval systems.

Claire Church, Director of Service Delivery at Auto Windscreens commented: “We pride ourselves on keeping our fingers on the pulse of industry developments. That’s why we registered with SERMI as a company in April last year and why our team of dedicated Auto Calibrate technicians will be among the first to become authorised as SERMI Independent Operator Employees.

“We saw a 23% increase in calibrations last year compared to 2024, and this demand is set to continue as more vehicles with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technologies are released. Although straight-forward windscreen replacements followed by ADAS calibrations don’t require a technician to access a vehicle’s security system, there will be some that will. This means businesses who aren’t SERMI registered simply won’t be able to complete these jobs after 1 April.

“Auto Calibrate offers garages and bodyshops the full SERMI solution and we look forward to helping the industry navigate the changes the scheme brings.”
