Delphi is urging workshops and motor factors to prepare for the changing UK vehicle parc as Chinese vehicle manufacturers continue to gain market share and create new servicing and repair opportunities.
The trend is a key focus of Delphi's Make Some Noise. Delphi – Built for Silence campaign, which aims to spark discussion around the issues shaping braking, vehicle safety, and the future of the independent aftermarket.
As more Chinese-built vehicles enter UK workshops, Delphi says the sector must be equipped with the right parts, diagnostics, technical information, and expertise to keep these vehicles within the independent channel.
Aliya Lam, Country Director UK at PHINIA, said: “The UK vehicle parc is changing, and the industry needs to change with it. Chinese vehicle manufacturers are becoming increasingly visible on our roads and, naturally, those vehicles will begin appearing inindependent workshops in greater numbers.
"That's exactly what Make Some Noise is about. We want to start conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing our industry, while ensuring workshops have the quality parts, knowledge, and support they need to service these vehicles with confidence.
"There is a real opportunity for the independent aftermarket. Businesses that prepare now will be well positioned to service and repair this growing segment of the parc."
Lam added: "Technicians shouldn't have to turn work away simply because a vehicle brand is unfamiliar. The aftermarket has always adapted to new technologies and vehicle types, and this is simply the next evolution. Success depends not only on having the right parts, but also on having the information and support needed to complete repairs correctly and confidently."
