IMI Skills Competitions Finalists Boost Knowledge at Body Repair Masterclass
Car-O-Liner supported masterclass prepares finalists for success ahead of the National Finals
As the professional body for the automotive sector that champions people and recognises professional excellence, the IMI Skills Competitions provide an opportunity for the most talented students and apprentices to showcase their ability, while championing the importance of vocational skills.
With the countdown to the IMI Skills Competitions finals well underway, the six finalists in the Automotive Body Repair discipline attended a hands-on masterclass at Car-O-Liner's state-of-the-art training centre in Rugby. The session provided real-world experience with the tools and equipment that will be used at the National Finals this November. It also replicated the Skills Competitions environment to help the finalists get competition-ready.
As Stuart Alexander, Managing Director, Car-O-Liner (UK) Ltd explained, the masterclass was a great opportunity to give something back to the industry. “Mentoring and training are my passions and it is great to give something back to an industry that has been so good to me. Seeing the talent, calibre and drive of these young people is a reward in itself.”
Belal Al Haka, a returning competitor and Panel and MET Technician said: "I really liked working with the jig. It shows exactly how unaligned the body of the car is. Returning to the IMI Skills Competitions this year is a great opportunity to refresh my training, ask questions and take lots of notes. I’m aiming for gold this time, so every bit of practice counts."
Sarah Whiteside-Jones, Director of Membership Engagement and Public Affairs at the IMI concluded: “The IMI Skills Competitions not only champion the vocational skills that are so critical to the automotive sector but also celebrate the most talented young students and apprentices working within it. The masterclasses provide a unique opportunity for the finalists to develop their skills ahead of the November finals and participants had a fantastic day gaining valuable experience they can take through into their future careers. We look forward to celebrating their success at the finals in November.”
