Simply Brands highlights vital items for breakdown recovery
Simply Brands has looked into the top reasons for breakdown and is now urging factors and workshops to inform drivers of what to keep in their vehicles in case of a breakdown.
No matter the season, no driver wants their vehicle to breakdown. A leading insurance company, Admiral, has revealed the most common reasons for vehicles breaking down and while there are ways to minimise the risk, how to be best prepared if it does.
The most common reason for breakdowns is a battery issue. At the bare minimum, it’s recommended to keep a set of booster cables (jump leads) in the vehicle. However a more modern approach is to keep a ready charged jump starter. These can jump start a car directly from their built in battery, without the need for a donor vehicle.
The second most common reason that vehicles breakdown is tyres, which is the last thing any driver wants. However, if the tyre issue is a flat tyre, it can be inflated enough to get the vehicle back on the road and into a safe location to change the tyre or, if close enough, to a workshop to get a new tyre fitted. To do this, drivers just need a tyre Inflator.
In addition to these items, there are other products that can be used in a breakdown situation, such as a warning triangle, booster cables, jacks, jump leads, jerry can, tow ropes and strap and even an air compressor. If possible, all these items should be kept in the vehicle in case of a breakdown or the car not starting.
It’s also worth having products kept in the vehicle to prevent emergencies, such as checking the tyres regularly with a tyre tread depth tool or a pressure gauge. To keep all of these products tidy, organised and safe from other items in the boot, a boot organiser is always worth having.
