TechMan highlights tyre safety message following MOT failure data

TechMan is urging drivers and workshops alike to take tyre safety more seriously

TechMan is urging drivers and workshops alike to take tyre safety more seriously, after DVSA figures revealed that over 2.15 million vehicles failed their MOT due to tyre defects in the past year, with 36 percent of those vehicles having previously received tyre-related advisories.

The statistics show a concerning trend: too many warnings are being ignored, and more motorists are keeping worn tyres on the road, potentially due to rising cost pressures or a lack of awareness about the risks involved.

Kimberley Dorr, Chief Operating Officer at TechMan, commented: “Tyres are the only contact point between a vehicle and the road and their condition can be the difference between a safe journey and a serious accident. These figures show just how many drivers are putting themselves and others at risk by overlooking advisory warnings. At TechMan, we’re committed to helping workshops keep their customers safe on the roads - and tyres are a key part of that.”

TechMan praised the ongoing efforts of organisations like TyreSafe, which continues to lead the charge in raising public awareness about tyre condition, maintenance, and legal requirements.

Dorr added: “As an industry we all need to do our part in helping educate the public about tyre safety. The more we raise awareness, the more lives we can help protect.”
