Two UK garages receive innovative Schaeffler E-Axle repair tool
Schaeffler’s new E-Axle Repair Tool provides a cost efficient repair solution for electric vehicle motors
Cleevely Motors in Cheltenham and LKQ Electriq in Shoreham-by-Sea near Brighton have recently received an innovative new tool from Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions, which allows them to add on-site electric motor repairs to their service menu.
The groundbreaking Schaeffler E-Axle Repair Tool (E-ART) is a specialised device that makes it possible to repair electric motors by enabling the precise, non-contact separation and reassembly of rotors and stators. Instead of replacing entire motors with new or used units, targeted repairs can now be performed quickly, safely and efficiently using the tool, along with a range of Schaeffler RepSystem-M repair solutions.
The plan is to create a network of motor repair facilities across the UK, with the first E-ART installed at Cleevely Motors in the Midlands and a second in the south of the country at LKQ Electriq. Schaeffler is currently looking at suitable sites in the North of England where a third E-ART could be installed.
The strategic placement of each tool is to ensure that workshops across the country will be able to send worn units to a regional repair centre. Repairing the motor using the E-ART tool and a Schaeffler RepSystem-M kit, or with original equipment bearings, will offer a cost effective solution for their customers, compared to an expensive motor replacement.
Schaeffler’s Technical Manager, Alistair Mason, who handed over the tools to the two workshops, said: “We’re thrilled to have these machines in the UK, as we can see the invaluable opportunity they will bring to EV repairs. We have collaborated closely with Cleevely Motors and LKQ Electriq for the last year, so to see the machines now installed in their workshops is an exciting milestone. We’re looking forward to seeing how beneficial the E-ART repair network becomes for them, their customers and other workshops across the country.”
Chris Lennon, Business Operations Manager at LKQ Electriq, added: “We believe Schaeffler’s E-ART tool is another step in our journey to help customers extend the life of their vehicles by repairing e-motors rather than replacing them. This allows customers to choose an approach that saves money while also being more sustainable and reducing waste.”
