Auto Windscreens responds to IMI: “We’re tackling skills shortage with training and apprenticeships”
The IMI recently reported research findings showing automotive glazing faces one of the biggest skills shortages in the accident and repair sector.
Auto Windscreens recently co-hosted a dinner at the House of Commons alongside MP for Chesterfield, Toby Perkins, to discuss issues in the industry. The agenda included recruitment challenges, apprenticeships and the case for professional recognition of the automotive glazing profession.
Auto Windscreens has responded to the IMI’s report, indicating it continues to grow its technician team and is investing in training and apprenticeships.
Sean Draycott, Operations Director, explained: “I acknowledge it’s tricky to find people with the right skills in our industry, but we have recruited 64 technicians in our network so far this year alone, and training has always been at the centre of our business.
“We opened our dedicated Training Centre at head office in 1990, and more than 30 years on, we’re still the only UK-wide provider to have a standalone Training Centre.”
“We currently have 35 Automotive Glazing Apprentices on programme around the UK, with another intake due to start in September. Developing our existing team alongside the next generation of talent is part of our strategy, and we see it as safeguarding the future of our industry.”
