IAAF signs Armed Forces covenant at Automechanika
The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) has formally signed the Armed Forces Covenant at Automechanika Birmingham’s Motorvate event, demonstrating its commitment to supporting veterans, service leavers, and reservists in building sustainable careers across the UK’s independent aftermarket sector.
The pledge was signed on 4th June 2025 by Mark Field, Chief Executive Officer of the IAAF, and facilitated by Mission Community as part of its Mission Automotivecampaign – an initiative launched with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) to unlock pathways for Armed Forces talent across all areas of the automotive industry.
This landmark commitment from the IAAF signals a proactive stance in addressing workforce challenges across the aftermarket – a sector which plays a critical role in keeping the UK’s vehicles safe, roadworthy, and efficient, yet faces growing pressure from an ageing workforce and increasing technical demands.
Mark Field said: “The skills and mindset of the UK’s Armed Forces community align perfectly with the needs of the aftermarket – from technical ability to problem-solving under pressure. Signing the Covenant is not only the right thing to do, it’s a smart move for the future of our sector.”
The signing took place during Motorvate, Automechanika’s dedicated programme spotlighting diversity, equity, and inclusion. By signing the Covenant in this setting, the IAAF adds its voice to a growing movement calling for more inclusive, resilient, and future-ready workforces.
James Cameron, CEO of Mission Community, added: “The IAAF joining the Covenant is a significant step. The independent aftermarket touches every corner of the country – and that national footprint mirrors the distribution of veteran talent. We’re excited to work with IAAF members to turn this pledge into real, life-changing opportunities.”
