Parts In Motion reminds garages on caravan & motorbike batteries

Months of little or no use will have taken their toll

With spring well under way and summer just around the corner, PartsInMotion.co.uk  is reminding garages that caravans and motorbikes will be getting dusted off for the warmer weather, and to head to PartsInMotion.co.uk if a replacement battery is needed following months of inactivity.

According to Matt Gates, Director at PartsInMotion.co.uk, the UK’s recent surprise warm weather is just what under-used batteries don’t need as they come out of winter. “For any battery, a sudden increase in temperature after a long cold winter really is the perfect storm that could finally finish it off. This is particularly prevalent for vehicles that are used seasonally, such as caravans and motorbikes.”

Months of little or no use will have taken their toll. Gates added: “Inactivity is always bad for a battery, but once winter comes, the cold weather can make any battery degradation increase, ultimately leading to less efficient charging and increasing sulfation.

“It will get worse as the summer arrives. With the UK enjoying earlier-than-normal warm weather in recent weeks, any battery in this position will now face further damage due to the heat. Warmer temperatures increase chemical reactions, causing even faster electrolyte evaporation, corrosion and ultimately reduce battery capacity yet further.”
