Tim Benson at Automechanika to help make garage life easier

Garage owners attending Automechanika Birmingham this June (3rd - 5th) will gain practical insights into improving workshop performance and customer experience on the Castrol stand (S70), as Tim Benson, Managing Director of the award-winning Oldfields Garage in Herefordshire, will be on-hand to discuss the newly launched Castrol Service Consultancy.

Unveiled at the recent Castrol Service Conference last month (March 21), the new consultancy is led by Tim Benson, one of the few advisors in the sector who still runs a successful independent garage. The four-stage programme is designed to boost workshop efficiency, refine the customer journey, and support business growth.

“Tim’s continued involvement at the coalface gives the service a distinctive, real-world perspective,” said Dan Bridges, Automotive Sales Manager at The Race Group part of Certas Energy, the company behind Castrol Service programme in the UK. “He’s already been working closely with members of our network, and the feedback has been incredibly positive.”

Tim will be on Castrol stand each day from 12 - 2pm, offering garage owners practical advice on how the consultancy can deliver measurable improvements.

“This isn’t just consultancy,” said Tim. “It’s about finding those opportunities that make life easier for garage owners, better for teams, and more rewarding for customers.”

The structured programme begins with a discovery session to pinpoint challenges and define objectives, followed by a full-day onsite visit assessing key operational areas. Tim then delivers a tailored evaluation report with five to six actionable recommendations. A follow-up session helps prioritise next steps, with further support available.

In addition to his consultancy work, Tim will lend his support to Mark Field, Chief Executive of the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF), as part of efforts to inspire and engage the next generation of talent. Tim will also be supporting BEN, the automotive industry charity, during the event, helping raise awareness of the wellbeing services available to those working within the sector.

“Automechanika Birmingham is a key date in the calendar for independent garages,” said Tim. “It’s a great opportunity to connect, share ideas, and learn from one another. I’m really looking forward to meeting fellow garage owners and talking about the small changes that can make a big difference to how we run our businesses.”
