WD-40 Company launches first Water Based Degreaser

WD-40 Company has announced the launch of its first water-based formula

WD-40 Company has announced the launch of its first water-based formula, backed by product testing that found 98% of tradespeople say it meets their needs.

Designed for professionals and home users alike, WD-40 Specialist® Professional Degreaser (Water-Based) is a ready-to-use cleaner that can also be diluted to suit a wide range of cleaning jobs in the workshop.

For independent garages, the WD-40 Specialist® Professional Degreaser (Water-Based) is effective across a range of tasks within the workshop including engine bay cleaning and degreasing cylinder heads and engine blocks. It can also be used for cleaning gearbox casings, removing oil contamination prior to repairs and for more general use, cleaning workshop benches and tools.

The WD-40 Specialist® Professional Degreaser (Water-Based) is just as effective in more specialised environments such as commercial vehicle workshops or bodyshops.

In the commercial vehicle workshop, its multiple uses include degreasing an HGV chassis, removing diesel and oil residues from engine components, cleaning fifth-wheel coupling plate and trailer landing gear maintenance.

It’s just as adept in the bodyshop, where the WD-40 Specialist® Professional Degreaser (Water-Based) can be utilised for cleaning greasy mechanical components, tool and spray booth equipment cleaning and general housekeeping in the workshop.

Beyond the workshop, it has multiple uses including everything from stripping thick, stubborn grease off engines and lawnmowers, to light everyday cleaning of windows and bodywork. The WD-40 Specialist® Professional Degreaser (Water-Based) biodegradable formula also cuts through dirt and grime quickly, even at low concentrations, while remaining non-abrasive and non-flammable, making it safe to use on paintwork, steel, aluminium, plastic and rubber.

The product is available in two formats: a 1-litre ready-to-use trigger spray bottle and a 5-litre refill container, and is NSF A8 registered.

The launch is grounded in market research of 150 tradespeople and 200 DIYers, which found that safety, ease of use and speed of action are the top purchase drivers for both groups when choosing a cleaner or degreaser, criteria the new water-based formula was specifically developed to meet.

Early product testing delivered strong results: 96% of tradespeople and 97% of DIYers agreed the product is of high quality, while 98% of tradespeople and 99% of DIYers said it meets their needs. The majority of both groups indicated a willingness to purchase the product, whether as a replacement for their current degreaser or as a valuable supplement to their existing toolkit.

James Jermyn, Trade Marketing Manager for WD-40 Company, commented: “The launch of WD-40 Specialist Water-Based Degreaser marks a significant expansion into a new category of maintenance solutions for WD-40 Company, combining outstanding cleaning performance with enhanced efficiency and sustainability.”
