Dayco unveils revolutionary belt drive transmission
Building on its 120 years of belt manufacturing expertise and decades of original equipment (OE) supply partnerships with vehicle manufacturers globally, power transmission specialist Dayco is making its Eurobike Frankfurt debut in June, showcasing several innovative final drive transmission design solutions that deliver significant benefits for E-bike applications.
“Dayco is a leading engine products and drive systems supplier for the automotive, industrial and aftermarket industries,” explains Dayco’s Director of Strategy & Business Development for Belts, Marco Di Meco, “and by applying our considerable knowledge and technological experience into the personal mobility sector, we are using this popular event to introduce our revolutionary integrated transmission system (iTS) and a range of three accompanying carbon drive belts.”
Launched under the company’s Dayco Power® motorsport and performance brand, the iTS solution delivers numerous benefits in performance and durability, not only in comparison to chain drive systems, but also compared to other toothed belt alternatives.
The application of the revolutionary design of both the profile of the belt and its integration with the sprockets, which have exactly the same width, allows the Dayco Power iTS to combine highly efficient power delivery to the wheel, with reduced wear, providing a new level of performance to supplement its virtually silent operation.
Alongside the unique profile of their teeth and the specifically formulated hardwearing coating that is applied to them, each of the accompanying drive belts – EHT Carbon, HT Carbon and UHT Carbon – have a defined composition to provide a good, better, best solution when combined with the iTS sprockets.
Although the belts share a common design, the type of rubber used (EPDM for EHT Carbon belt and HNBR for the HT and UHT Carbon belts) and the formulation of these elements, including the internal cords, varies according to Dayco’s unique specifications, to ensure the belts deliver the optimum performance for the specific application.
“As a result, the Dayco Power iTS/Carbon belt combination provides the market with the ultimate in belt driven, E-bike transmission solutions,” added Di Meco.
“While it is the drive transmission solutions that will take center stage, we will also be displaying our UHT Carbon belt used inside the bike’s electric motor, an OE solution already in place with several China-based E-bike manufacturers, which is a further development that heralds the introduction of Dayco as a major player in the personal mobility sector.”
