DriveTec launches new-generation engine oil for Stellantis engines
DriveTec has announced the launch of 5W-30 Stellantis Bag-In-Box engine oil, a fully synthetic, low SAPS, fuel efficient engine oil designed for use in a variety of modern petrol and diesel engines.
The new specification is recommended for the 1.5 BlueHDi (DV5R), DW10, 2.0 Blue engine and DW12, 2.2 Blue diesel engines manufactured before February 2023, and 1.2L PureTech (EB Turbo Euro 6.1) petrol engines.
Benefits of using the improved formula include long-lasting performance, cleaner engines, exceptional engine longevity and performance across a wide temperature range.
The new oil specification (FPW9.55535-03) now applies to all EB2 and DV5R engines. The grade is still 5W30, but the new formulation has updated chemical properties meaning older types of 5W30 should not be used.
The upgrade is linked to piston, piston skirt, and bore scoring problems linked to LSPI (Low-Speed Pre-Ignition). Stellantis has identified that the correct oil blend can help prevent these problems. The issue is not linked to well-known wet belt reliability.
Mark Hyde, Senior Programme Head, GSF Car Parts, said: “This is an important step for DriveTec to not only expand its catalogue of lubricants, but also cater to a very specific application for popular Stellantis vehicles. It’s crucial that garages are aware of the new guidance from Stellantis, as out-of-date systems may still advise 0w30 or 0w20, and there have been several cases where the incorrect oil has been supplied. Ask your GSF branch for the most up-to-date guidance.”
