Mirka launches plastic repair kit for collision repair sector

Mirka UK is expanding its automotive product portfolio with the launch of the Mirka® Plastic Repair Solution

Mirka UK is expanding its automotive product portfolio with the launch of the Mirka® Plastic Repair Solution. This new kit has been designed to provide collision repair centres with a solution that offers a standardised repair to damaged plastic components. It also enables the bodyshops to open more repair opportunities and reduce their dependency on replacement parts.

The kit has been designed with the user in mind and contains all the components needed throughout the plastic repair process, including Mirka’s abrasives, Easy Weld Strips, Easy Weld Tri Rods, ABS Strips, a Bumper Push Tool, Mini Tab Repair Jig Kit, Plastic Shaving File, Burr Grinder, Weld Support Tape and Plastic Bond. This ensures that the user has all the necessary items for reshaping, aligning, supporting, welding, guiding, trimming and finishing damaged plastic components. In addition, it means that the technician does not need to rely on individual products or improvised techniques to perform the job, which, in turn, leads to increased efficiency. Alongside this, it provides technicians with a standardised and repeatable repair method that delivers a consistent repair quality.

The kit has also been designed to be versatile, highlighted by some of the products that come with it. The Easy Weld Strips achieve consistent thermal fusion with the original plastic substrate, which ensures reliable repairs across almost any modern bumper system. The Easy Weld Tri Rod is used for more precise welding that is required in corners, edges, angled sections of vehicles and reinforced geometries found in bumper repairs. For more rugged welding, the ABS welding rods have been developed for use on plastic components such as grills, mirror housings, trims, and other rigid automotive exterior parts that are open to the elements.

A selection of tools in the kit make light work of damaged bumper shapes and mounting points. The Bumper Push Tool has an ergonomic design for a comfortable grip and provides the user with controlled pushing, shaping and contour correction for damaged plastic bumpers. For the precise alignment of damaged mounting points for the welding process, the adjustable Mini Tab Repair Jig Kit can be used to support end splits and crack repairs in automotive plastic components.

The Abranet® Max Mini Flap abrasive discs provide efficient material removal in non-visible inner bumper areas, while helping minimise heat build-up, to reduce the risk of overheating or re-melting the welded plastic area that can lead to costly reworks.

Steve Smith, national sales manager, Collision Repair, Mirka UK, says, “The Mirka Plastic Repair Solution represents an important step in how we support collision repair professionals. As a business, we saw a gap in the market when it comes to plastic repair, and we believe this solution meets the needs of the workshops and provides them with all the necessary items so they can offer plastic repair as a supplementary service. In addition, the kit provides technicians with a standardised repair process that will enable workshops to repair more, replace less and make plastic repair a more valuable part of their operation.”
